MIRA

Magdalena Mira with her South American Music Band, MIRA.

MIRA is a journey to the roots of South American music. After living and performing in Australia for over a decade, jazz-trained Chilean vocalist Magdalena Mira felt a longing to reconnect with the music deep within her soul. “As much as you do, as far as you go,” she says, “the roots are the strongest thing.” Magdalena has brought together a band of players who are all passionately immersed in the music of their ancestors. Combined with Magdalena’s unique jazz phrasing, improvisation and composition, MIRA is the rhythm, sweat, and harmony of South American roots animated by a contemporary spirit. Wherever you trace your own roots, MIRA will move you.

Ricardo Cancino
Magdalena Mira

United by their Chilean roots and a deep love for Latin American music, singer Magdalena Mira and guitarist Ricardo Cancino bring an intimate yet powerful collaboration to the stage. What began with the Afro-Peruvian project MIRA soon grew into a duo that explores original songs alongside imaginative versions of folk traditions from across Latin America.

Their music is built on trust, chemistry, and a shared vision: to honour tradition while allowing space for new sounds, textures, and stories to emerge. Magdalena’s expressive voice and Ricardo’s sensitive, intricate guitar playing create a dialogue that is both soulful and dynamic, moving seamlessly from delicate ballads to rhythmically vibrant songs.

Together, they invite audiences into a journey through the heart of Latin America — its rhythms, its poetry, and its spirit — delivered with warmth, honesty, and a deep connection to their heritage.

I respectfully acknowledge and walk alongside the Guringai and Darkinjung people, who are the custodians of the land on which I work and play, and pay my respects to Elders, past, present and emerging. I acknowledge that sovereignty of these lands was never ceded.
