About the event

Following on the Rhythms, Colours, Flavours of Peru editions, this year we are having the first Rhythms, Colours, Flavours of Latin America Festival, to expand on and showcase its live music, dance, fine food and culture in New South Wales.

Gumaroy Newman will open proceedings with a welcome to country and First Nation’s performance showcasing traditional rhythms.

To celebrate the diversity in Cultural Traditions of Latin American countries, there will be a unique appearance by local Argentinian and Uruguayan Senior Folk dancers, "Los Sureños" followed by "Brisas del Peru" and "Mexidahlia Folkloric Dance", showcasing their colourful and energetic dances throughout the day and a special dance and music show by Danny Telas Canta, from Colombia.

Salsa and Bachata lovers will be delighted that Pedro and Eugenie, the dynamic duo of dance from Salsamania will bring their Latin Rhythms show to Marrickville. To close a great day, we are very proud to have MIRA, a journey to the roots of Latin American music. After living and performing in Australia for over a decade, jazz-trained Chilean vocalist Magdalena Mira felt a longing to reconnect with the music deep within her soul. “As much as you do, as far as you go,” she says, “the roots are the strongest thing.”

Magdalena has brought together a band of players passionately immersed in the music of their ancestors. Combined with Magdalena’s unique jazz phrasing, improvisation and composition, MIRA is the rhythm, sweat, and harmony of Latin American roots animated by a contemporary spirit. Wherever you trace your own roots, MIRA will move you.

‘Andina – Peruvian Cuisine’ food stall will be selling a variety of delicious dishes throughout the day, and you can also try traditional Latin American desserts. A kid’s corner will offer fun activities for the family. Don’t miss this special event - join us to celebrate Sydney’s vast multicultural fabric.

I respectfully acknowledge and walk alongside the Guringai and Darkinjung people, who are the custodians of the land on which I work and play, and pay my respects to Elders, past, present and emerging. I acknowledge that sovereignty of these lands was never ceded.
